We had social this week at Hope Central joining together today to celebrate Valentine’s Day together as a community with pancakes, table tennis, pool and board games.
We had a blessed time of sharing testimonies and tests.
It also so happened to be Ash Wednesday the start of lent. We explained the name “Ash Wednesday” is derived from placing ashes on believers’ foreheads in the shape of a cross often accompanied by the words “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return,” emphasising mortality and the need for repentance.
We then explained the Christian tradition of Lent is similar to the many Jewish tradition found throughout the Bible and the purpose of Lent is to create space in the middle of life’s responsibilities to appreciate what’s always been there—God’s presence.
Lent is a 40-day period leading up to Resurrection Sunday. Based on Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness, Lent is a tool that can help you become more aware of God’s voice and His sacrificial love. Although Lent isn’t actually mentioned in the Bible, it was discussed at the Council of Nicea in 325 AD because it provided a rhythm of reflection and repentance for Christians as they entered spring—a season often associated with new beginnings.
The purpose of Lent isn’t to “better” your life, but to centre your life on what matters most: the One who made you and died for you. That this tradition / spiritual habit prepares our hearts and minds for Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday (Hallelujah).
We had such a great time hanging out together it was “joyful”
Thank you for your continuing prayer support it is vital
A scripture from a member of Taste & See
Romans 12:1-2 A Living Sacrifice
12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Can you hear those dry bones RATTLING….
